Passed Away

Harry passed away peacefully on the 5th September 2024, in his own bed at home.

His funeral was held on 16th October at 2:00pm, at nearby Woodlands Crematorium, where we all remembered Harry, who will be greatly missed.

His best friend, Jill, held the service, Harry’s choice of hymns were sung and both his son David and his grandson Tristan told tales, read poems and passed on wishes from Harry. Many veterans attended and a large number stood around the walls of the funeral chapel holding respectful flags.

As Harry had wished, the funeral was followed by a celebration of Harry’s life at the nearby Jaguar Car Factory, Experience Centre.  That was a happy chance to meet and talk to other people who knew, respected and enjoyed Harry. For a couple of hours, there was a buffet as videos played on wall screens telling the story of Harry’s life which inspired many happy chats and smiles within his celebration.

Harry expressed a wish to have his ashes scattered in the Garden of Remembrance at Newcastle upon Tyne Crematorium where the ashes of Maisie, his wife, were scattered in December 2015. We will therefore be taking his ashes to Newcastle to scatter in the near future.

Please Note

Harry allowed us to tell you about all of his lifetime experiences including not only the brave bits but also the tears in eyes and the happy, fun times. We still have many photos and documents that will allow us to put even more on this website as soon as we check it against his documents eg. RAF Pilot Log Books, Official Documents, etc.
